Six homes featuring green and resource-efficient products, technology and materials will be showcased when home builders, remodelers, designers and other industry professionals from all over the country descend on Dallas for the National Green Building Conference, May 8-11.
The Tour of Green Homes is the traditional opening event of the conference, which is sponsored by the National Association of Home Builders.
"Now in its 11th year, the National Green Building Conference is the most important event of its kind for the green home building industry," said JoAnne Theunissen, the Michigan remodeler and home builder chairing this year's conference.
This year, the conference is focused on the business aspects of green building so that industry professionals can better incorporate these principles into their day-to-day operations. "With sessions including 'The High Performance Energy Remodel,' 'Legal and Liability Issues' and 'The Down & Clean of Affordable Green,' attendees will be better armed to green their businesses," she said.
Highlights of the May 8 Tour of Green Homes include:
- A near-zero-energy home that features a geothermal heat pump delivering tempered air from six 300-foot-deep narrow wells drilled into the Texas plains.
- A cutting-edge green design designated an Energy Value Housing Award winner that delivers as promised.
- A home in the close-in suburbs remodeled to fit the needs of an active Dallas family looking for sustainable design and easy maintenance.
Financier and clean-energy advocate T. Boone Pickens will speak at the NAHB National Green Building Awards dinner on Friday, May 8, while Joel Makower, the author of "Strategies for the Green Economy," is the keynote speaker on Saturday, May 9.
More than 30 educational sessions on Saturday and Sunday cover aspects of building science, design and marketing. The NAHB National Green Building Conference also includes more than 100 exhibits from green product manufacturers.
Corporate sponsors for the event include the Propane Education & Research Council, Stock Building Supply, Wells Fargo and the Whirlpool Corporation. Registration and additional information is available
