Katahdin Offers Rescue Option for Log Home Buyers Left in the Lurch

The log home industry is not immune to the economic difficulties of today's market. In fact, several large and small log home companies have closed their doors, leaving customers who paid deposits with a set of plans and the potential loss of their dream home.

For those customers who have lost or fear they may lose deposits to bankrupt log home manufacturers, Katahdin Cedar Log Homes (Oakfield, ME) may have solution that will still put them into the home of their dreams. While the actual deposit amount has been lost to the closed company, in many cases, Katahdin can offer the same house with better materials for an amount equal to or less than the remainder due under the old contract.

"On several different occasions over the past few months, home buyers have contacted us to quote on a log home package where they had lost their deposit to a shaky or bankrupt manufacturer." said Barry Ivey, vice president of Katahdin. "For example, one couple had paid a $9,000 deposit on a $90,000 log home package to a company that went out of business before they were able to complete the contract. We were able to offer the same home design, with better materials—like Northern White Cedar and pre-cut, pre-drilled logs—for about $81,000," he added.

"As a result, even though the deposit had been forfeited to the now defunct company, the buyers were still able to build their dream log home with Katahdin," said Ivey. "For added peace of mind, our prospective clients can confirm our well-documented financial stability through such respected sources as Dun & Bradstreet and our bank officials."

Katahdin is offering to review log home plans and contracts with those buyers who may have lost deposits with companies that have closed their doors or are struggling to fulfill agreements during this economic decline. Because Katahdin has lower operating expenses and a streamlined computerized house manufacturing line, their prices are often considerably lower than their competitors. Though each circumstance is unique, according to Ivey, "In many cases, we can at least reduce the loss of deposit to a level where many home buyers are still able to have the home of their dreams."

I think most log home companies are willing to work out a deal like this. I know I can probably do something for anyone looking (www.jenranhomes.com). Usually our package and prices beat most other companies as it is.
