The Stephenson Group, a New York state lumber supplier with locations in Speculator, Indian Lake and Chestertown, has jumped into the log home market in a big way. The company bid $2.4 million for much of the assets of bankrupt log home producer Original Lincoln Logs Ltd. (Chestertown, NY), a 31-year-old pioneer of rustic dream homes.
The company, headed by Larry and Debbie Stephenson in conjunction with their daughter Erin Brothers, purchased Original Lincoln’s manufacturing facilities and its $23 million backlog of orders, as well as the rights to the Lincoln Logs brand name, its trademarks and its copyrights.
At the court-ordered auction Jan. 28th, the Stephenson Group (no relation to the other Northeast lumber company, Stevenson Lumber, as incorrectly stated in a previous post) was clearly the major bidder, obtaining lots 2, 3, 8, 9a1, 9b, 9c, 102 and 11 in a “Bulk Bid.” But other companies waded into the fray as well, including James Peck buying lots 5 and 7 for $100,000; Kenneth Pasternak purchased lot 6 for $100,000 and Yellowstone Log Homes purchasing lot 12 for $5,000, according to court documents.
"We do plan on operating the company under the Original Lincoln name, continuing to sell the same designs and plans," said Erin Brothers in a phone interview. "We are currently going through the closing procedures. But we plan on being open in early March."
