Builder Switches from Stick to Mods—Twice

Poor quality soured builder Thomas Rollason II on modular homes when he was putting them up in the early 1990s. "It just was more of a nuisance and not a quality product at that time," said Rollason, owner of T.R. Rollason Builder in Susquehanna Twp, reports Pennlive.com and the Patriot-News.

About five years ago, Rollason gave the industry a second chance after touring a modular-home plant in Avis, about 15 miles west of Williamsport.

"I honestly feel that the modular system…can be and is superior to stick-built units," said Rollason, who expects to build a dozen custom new homes this year. "You'd walk in the door and I would defy you to tell a modular from stick-built," Rollason said.
