Poor quality soured builder Thomas Rollason II on modular homes when he was putting them up in the early 1990s. "It just was more of a nuisance and not a quality product at that time," said Rollason, owner of T.R. Rollason Builder in Susquehanna Twp, reports

About five years ago, Rollason gave the industry a second chance after touring a modular-home plant in Avis, about 15 miles west of Williamsport.
"I honestly feel that the modular system…can be and is superior to stick-built units," said Rollason, who expects to build a dozen custom new homes this year. "You'd walk in the door and I would defy you to tell a modular from stick-built," Rollason said.
