AmerLink Log Homes, which also sells log home packages under the name In The Woods, is in the news in Carroll County, VA. The local County Board of Supervisors has filed a lawsuit against the log home manufacturer for not upholding its end of the bargain struck in 2005 to relocate the company from North Carolina to Carroll County, according to a recent report by Ashley Roberts, a WSLS10 Reporter.

Under a performance agreement, AmerLink received $600,000 in grants and a 32 acre parcel in an industrial park in Carroll County. In return, AmerLink was to invest $3 million of its own money (excluding the grant money) and create 200 jobs over a 39-month period. However, county officials demanded the return of the grant money and the 32-acre parcel in September of this year, after hearing that the company had created only one job during the 39-month period. John Barth, with AmerLink, told county officials during the Sept. 8th hearing that the company was hard hit by the downturn in the housing market. Barth asked for a seven-month extension, which the county denied.

In the lawsuit, Carroll County is demanding Amerlink return $600,000 in incentives and transfer 32.4 acres in the industrial park back to the county for breaching the agreement.
