bloglist Why is the Wii wilting?

Nintendo's Wii has been one of the most profitable games consoles ever sold, and after its launch in 2006, Nintendo took months to satisfy pent-up demand. This enabled the company to charge a premium price for its hardware and make large profits while rivals such as Sony and Microsoft were losing money on every machine they

One might argue that Angelenos are by nature always in costume, but the pressure of outward appearance is never greater than on Halloween. Although many have been crafting their costumes since July, others among us will scramble around the house with mere hours to spare, t

bloglist Chemistry Nobel goes to ribosomes, the protein manufacturer

Ribosomes are the manufacturing machines for proteins, which participate in almost every chemical reaction key to life. To study the chemistry of life, it is essential to know the functions and structure of the ribosome. The Nobel Prize in Chemistry goes to three researchers who mapped the positions of atoms in ribosomes, which could lead to more efficient antibiotics.

The 2009 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been awarded to Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, Thomas A. Steitz, and Ada E. Yo

bloglist Levi Johnston's nuts ad: A few quick questions

Levi Johnston, of Sarah Palin’s grandbaby daddy fame, has showed up in a new ad for Wonderful Pistachios.

After viewing it a couple of times, I have four quick questions:

1) Are we to believe that people outside of Levi Johnston’s caribou hunting club (and perhaps Kathy Griffin’s fanbase) actually recognize him when he struts awkwardly down on the street, let alone yell

bloglist Police Arrest Suspects After University of South Florida Lockdown

Two men are in custody after several warnings were sent to students of a possible gunman on the University of South Florida's Tampa campus.

A police spokesman told the Tampa Tribune a man stood up on a campus bus and said he was the one authorities were looking for. He told them he had a bomb, but later said it was just a hoax, spokeswoman Laura McElroy told the newspaper.

The first suspect, described as an African American male in a green and yello

bloglist Kanye West cancels American tour

A North American tour by Kanye West has been cancelled just weeks after he was criticised for storming on stage at an awards ceremony.

The rap star has experienced widespread negative publicity since he interrupted country star Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards.

He told her Beyonce should have won the best female award instead.

No reason has been given but West has admitted he needed to take time off to grieve for his mother.

bloglist Michelle Obama arrives in Copenhagen for IOC vote

Michelle Obama didn't waste any time impressing International Olympic Committee members.

As the first lady walked through the hotel lobby Wednesday, she spotted IOC member Nicole Hoevertsz, who only a day earlier had been appointed permanent secretary of Aruba's Council of Ministers.

"She said, 'Congratulations on your new appointment.' She already knew," Hoevertsz said. "That was a very nice detail."

Mrs. Obama arrived here Wednesday to lend her support to Chicago's

Jim Haynie Financing building systmens needs

Banks in my area say NO going in the door to construction lending. I know they are thinking stick building spec homes and they are loaded with forclosures. But when I say No that is not what I do. I show them pictures of million dollar home and say on a 2,000 sq ft or less we need about 35% of the contract when we get the building permit and another 30% in 30 days and we will go to closing within the next 30 days which will be paid for by the clients mortgage. Then they look at me and say " is t… Continue

bloglist Sarah Palin, a Soon-to-Be Publishing Phenom

Sarah Palin may no longer be governor of Alaska, but she's certainly destined to become a best-selling author. HarperCollins, her publisher, has announced the print-run of her memoir will be a staggering 1.5 million copies -- equal to the print-run of Senator Ted Kennedy's posthumous autobiography published this month. Publishing sources tell me that such a giant run is only ordered up when there is clear evidence from booksellers and surveys of massive interest in a book.

The book, wh

bloglist What Will Change in Germany?

In the final hours of her campaign for re-election, Chancellor Angela Merkel proclaimed that anchoring worldwide the principles of the German economic and social model would be a main task of a new government in Berlin.

Mrs. Merkel said this was a matter “of the defense of our ideals,” according to a dispatch from the German-language service of The Associated Press.

To say the least, here was a fairly puzzling and even contradictory statement about where the world’s leading expo

bloglist Islamic prayers at the Capitol

Reporting from Washington - Thousands of Muslims, prostrating themselves in prayer, gathered just feet from the Capitol on Friday for "A Day of Islamic Unity," an event intended to showcase what organizers called the "peace, beauty and solidarity" of Islam.

Hassen Abdellah, a lawyer and president of the Dar-ul-Islam Mosque in Elizabeth, New Jersey, said he organized the event after being inspired by President Obama's attempt to reach out to Muslims in his inaugural address.

PITTSBURGH (Reuters) - The Group of 20 is set to become the premier coordinating body on global economic issues, reflecting a new world economic order in which emerging market countries like China are much more relevant, according to a draft communique.

Leaders of the G20 developed and developing nations also agreed to make the International Monetary Fund more representative by increasing the voting power of countries that have long been under-represented in the world financial body,

bloglist Largest ever hoard of Anglo-Saxon gold found in Staffordshire

This hoard will change lives. Terry Herbert, the finder, and the anonymous landowner will be well compensated: by how much no one knows, but such is the scale of the treasure that when the valuation committee meets, it will have to consider the depressive effect of unleashing on to the market a record quantity of supreme gold artistry. The farmer who not long ago sold the field to its present owner might lose a few nights' sleep, too.

But what does it mean for the res
