Building Systems: Construction Reinvented

Construction Reinvented.

As we all know, it's getting more difficult to make ends meet because they keep moving the ends. This begs the question: Butcher, baker, appraiser or candlestick maker? Because of the economic climate, some home builders have been forced to augment their income with other endeavors, from remodeling and landscaping, to maintenance or real estate appraisal. Tell us what you've discovered to supplement your income?

Ever been known to talk to yourself? Apparently I do, as I am responding to my own post on what are you doing to make ends meet, even when they keep moving the ends. As an example of someone diversifying in this tough economy, I bring you Michelle A. Roberts. She is the founder of Chatham Hill Residential Design and Build, a woman-owned Residential Design-Build-Consulting Firm. She is also the Founder and Creator of Ecohealth Homes Inspired By Caroline McKenna. In case you are not aware, Ecohealth's designs and construction methods empower and enable residential building system manufacturers, developers, and builders to construct sustainable, SAFE and HEALTHY housing and communities. Penn Lyon is offering a line of healthy and green homes, after teaming up with Michelle.

Michelle is also launching a line of Eco-friendly furniture with her friend Jane, designed with a distinctive antique look. So think of it as NEW old furniture with a healthy twist. You can find the website for the new business here. Let's wish Michelle good luck with her new venture.

Thanks Charles! We use as much reclaimed wood as possible and also use non toxic finishes, including Milk Paint. My website is www.ecohealthfurniture.com If you don't see something you had in mind, I am sure we can make it. Email me anytime!

I'm either dumb or smart, but I open my own business selling ASSY Wood Screws (Log Screws). I was laid off in December and had a chance to buy the inventory from the company I was employed. I took my savings invested in myself and there we go. Working day by day with the belief that every day I survive, I'm closer to my dream of true success and security for my family!

Make it happen!

That's awesome Will. If you need ideas on how to reach log home builders, just give me a shout. In fact, give me a five or 10-point sales pitch on your log screws and why builders should use them and some pics of them in action and I will do a story on it on this website. Sound good? Bring it! cb

Some builders have closed their doors. My wife and I have been saving for a few years now, with our aim being to build our dream house with American Standard Building Systems (I would be the general contractor). I just learned yesterday that they closed last year, after forty years in business.

It makes me so sad. I feel so bad for them.

I don't suppose anyone knows of modular builders in the central Virginia region?

I'm not exactly familiar with what is considered Central Virginia but I spend a lot of time locating modular builders all over the country and listing them by state. Here are the ones I have in Virginia
