Building Systems Editor wins S.A. Walters Award
Industry leaders in this fast growing field have singled out the editor of a trade publication for the leadership role he has undertaken over the last decade. Charles Bevier, editor of Building Systems magazine, received the S.A. Walters Chairman's Award at Showcase 2005 in Louisville, KY. The prize is awarded annually by the board of trustees of the Building Systems Councils of the National Association of Home Builders (Washington, DC). The prize is the most prestigious in this home building category, which includes concrete, log, modular and panelized homes.
"It's easy to be enthusiastic about these industries, which deliver the American dream of a new home quicker and with better quality," says Bevier in accepting the award. "I'm honored to be a part of the success story of these building systems, which have experienced double digit growth over the last decade. I look forward to profiling these industries increased market share in the years to come, as more and more builders and consumers embrace a better way to build."
The New York Times, USA Today, Time, Newsweek and scores of other media outlets have all quoted Bevier when documenting the growth and innovation in the building systems industries. Bevier has also received awards from Folio for excellence in magazine design and is a recipient of the Hearst Journalism Award for outstanding reporting.

A Short History
Building
Systems Magazine (BSM) is a United States-based
trade magazine read by builders, developers and
general contractors using or considering using
innovative construction technologies. Using these
systems, builders are able to offer their buyers
quicker completion times, precision design and
engineering, and the highest quality construction
in controlled environments.
BSM is part of
the Home Buyer Publications Group, which includes the
Log Home
Living, Timber Home Living magazines, and the
The Log & Timber Home
Shows and Seminars. BSM is
published six times a year and owned by
Builder/Dealer Management Services Inc. BSM has
been in existence since 1980, under various forms
and titles. It was purchased from Petersen
Publishing by Home Buyer Publications in 1995.
The magazine's mission is to convince
conventional site builders to switch to new
building technologies--a task once best
accomplished with a club in one hand and wad of
cash in the other. However, today's builders
realize they need to work smarter, not harder, or
risk having to go to work for the competition.
Today, BSM is widely regarded the trade
publication for the systems industry (no,
really!), with more than 25,000 subscribers
nationwide reading it every other month. BSM
profiles labor saving technologies in
construction, including log, modular, panelized
and structural insulated panel (SIP) building
systems. Each issue features builders and
contractors who have made the switch to building
systems and as a result are enjoying increased
home sales, quicker cycle times for completed
homes and higher profit margins. We also cover the
people and events making news in the industry,
including new manufacturing facilities around the
U.S., mergers, promotions and news about financial
programs specifically for those building or buying
these homes. Our editorial departments profile
strategies and solutions for success in the field
or in the factory.
There are other
publications that touch on this industry from time
to time, including Builder, Professional Builder
and Structural Building Components (and you
thought Building Systems wasn't a sexy name!).
However, their coverage of this industry is
parenthetical at best, since their job is to
reinforce the status quo of conventional site
building. |
